Launching the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Charter
Member organisations across East Sussex have signed up to our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter – a shared commitment to becoming even more inclusive, fair and accessible to everyone we work with and support.
The Charter sets out a clear goal: to embed EDI best practice through agreed minimum standards in governance, HR, and service delivery. It also aims to improve access for people with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, strengthening our work with communities across East Sussex.
What’s Involved?
The Charter outlines six key actions we’re encouraging organisations to adopt as best practice, or work towards:
- Board Leadership – Appointing a board-level EDI lead.
- Staff Voice – Running annual engagement activities to include staff perspectives in decision-making.
- Policy Review – Keeping EDI policies up to date with regular reviews.
- Client Data – Monitoring client demographics to improve access and inclusion.
- EDI Strategy – Considering developing a formal EDI strategy.
- Partnerships – Building links with specialist organisations that can provide insights to improve our understanding and practices.
Sitting alongside these principles are templates, guides and resources to support each action; whilst the ES VCSE Alliance EDI Oversight Group continue to offer support along the way and will also be seeking training opportunities to extend the impact of the Charter.
What’s next?
Together, we aim for more organisations to commit to the EDI Charter and continue to support each other in implementing these principles – so that we can build a more inclusive East Sussex, from the inside out.
